I've been contiplating a toad and have been learning much on all the "right" features to get here on the forum (thanks everyone). Really thought I was heading down the Wrangler path, but now am trying to decide if I want to use our RX300 to pull instead. I know I'll need the Remco disconnect, etc. Has anyone used this type SUV for a toad?? I also have a 2006 Ford 4x4 Lariat, but just a little to heavy!

We towed a 2001 RX300 for many many miles. What you need is a Remco Lube pump not the drive shaft disconnect. Our RX300 was an AWD. We never had a problem towing the car.

Thanks Gary for following up. With the AWD the disconnect is not needed, not sure I understand the concept on that? What position do you have the gear box in while pulling?

Isn't the RX300 pretty heavy?? I thought the Bounder was limited to pulling 5000 lbs? And don't forget the brakes.

Curb weight is right around 4000 lbs., guess it wouldn't hurt to have it weighed though to get an accurate number on it! Thanks...Tx. Bubba

I currently tow a 2001 Lexus RX300. Front wheel drive. This is the last year Lexus approved towing four wheels down as stated in the owners manual.
We searched for this model specifically for this purpose. We do not use a lube pump but I try to start the car every 100 - 200 miles, run it through the gears.
The only problem I have had is towing a couple of days in a row the battery went dead. You have to leave the key in accessory position with the gear shift in neutral but we didn't realize the A.C. fan still runs. We now turn off the fan.

I have a 2 wheel drive 1999 RX300. Anyone know if it can be towed without any modification?

Also, is it generally true that 4x4 vehicles do not require drive line (or oil pump) mods or is that just rumor?

Zim, welcome to iRV2.

Check with REMCO TOWING about towing your RX300. They are the towing experts.

It used to be generally true that 4X4 vehicles were towable without modification.

That has all changed with electronically controlled transfer cases, etc.

Each potential toad has to be researched to find that answer.

When you say "front wheel drive" I assume you mean 2 wheel drive. Correct?

Any max tow speed limitations?

Also, how do you turn your fan off so as to not drain your battery?

What do you mean when you stated that you are "starting the car every 100 - 200 miles and running it through the gears". Are you disconnecting the car from your RV each time you run it through the gears?

We have a 2002 LX470 and Remco is saying that they have heard reports that people are towing the car without any issues. Remco does not offer a lube pump for the LX470.

I also have a 2001 Lexus RX 300 AWD and wish to modify it to tow behind our Class A. Did you have the Remco lube pump installed by your Lexus dealer or your RV dealer. Did the Lexus dealer confirm that this will not damage the RX 300. I am waiting for an answer on the proper way to tow the RX from my Lexus dealer..Thanks

Lexus approved flat towing the 1999, 2000 and 2001 RX 300 without ANY mods, meaning no lube pump is necessary. I have towed a 2000 since new, and no problems. Shifter in N, key in first click to release steering wheel, and off we go. I have copies of the Lexus TSIB's from 1999 and 2000 at home. I will check on the AWD, as mine is 2wd.
