Towing My Grande Vitara
I have a 2000 GV and will be flat towing it behind our Winnebago. I was told yesterday there are problems I should watch for with the GV but I can't find anything online stating what the problems (if any) are with flat towing this unit. 
Does anyone on this august forum have any knowledge of flat towing a standard GV four down. As an aside I will say it came with its Blue Ox tow bar in a protective bag and installed base plates. 
TIA as I know I will be given great information here.

Don't tow a GV myself, but have known several RVers that did and never heard any complaints.

Check your owners manual. Usually it calls for stopping every 150 miles and after starting run the trans thru all the gears. Assuming of course 4X4 automatic?

I have a '02 Tracker soft top 4 x 4 and have been flat towing it for 11 years and about 30,000 miles with no problems. Follow the directions in the owner's manual and it should be fine, assuming it is 4 x 4. Just remember to run the engine for a few minutes every 200 miles of towing. (GV and Tracker are the same vehicle with different names btw)

I tow an 08 GV. Have had no problems. They say to start every 150 miles. I never have. Suzuki guy told me they say that as a CYA. I love mine. Tows great, is a good vehicle once you get there.

I have a 2002 and a 2006 Grand Vitara's. Towed the 2002 over 9,000 miles. Just finished setting up the 2006 for towing (will tow it this weekend). Because the 2002 was so easy to tow, bought the 2006. As said previously, follow the info in the Manual.

Wishing I had a manual. Have feelers out trying to locate one but alas nothing biting just yet. BTW I should also have stated it is a 5spd manual.

We towed a 1999 GV for several k miles and loved it. Instructions were to put the transfer in neutral and the manual transmission in second and pull one fuse. In June of 2014 I apparently failed to get the transfer firmly into neutral and it popped back into 4x4. Seems that 65 mph in 2nd gear is a little much for that V6. Although it did make it a little over 20 miles before the big boom. Scrap yard did give me a little over $200 so wasn't all lost.

I have a 2000 Grand Vitara Limited and have towed it for 7 years without any incident (that was the cars fault) well there was that time I left the car emergency brake on and drug it 2 miles before I realized it.. You ever seen 2 tires and aluminum wheels worn down to nearly the drums!!!!
All that is necessary is to put the transfer case in Neutral, ignition switch to unlock.. Be sure all accessories are switched off and go for it.. No fuse pulling or such.. Best tow car around as far as I am concerned..

I have/tow an 08 GV. Have had absolutely no problems towing or driving. Bought used two years ago.Best bang for the buck car I've ever had. Love it.
