As a follow up. I talked with Drew Cohoon, REMCO Industries (800-228-2481 x751) this morning and he said they were infact working with Ford on '08 and later models of Ford Escapes and Mercury Mariners. Ford is now ordering the Model LP-Ford(6F35) Remco Transmission pumps and sending to Ford dealers to install on vehicles that have had transmission problems. He did not say that Ford is paying for the units, only that they were installing them. He was also very unhappy to hear that Ford has pulled the authorization to flat tow the 2013 model Escapes. They have walked away from the market that we have offered to them.

I'm investigating the use of the explorer. I read in the towing guide put out my (I think) motorhomes that you have to remove some of the tranny fluid. Is that correct?

Thanks for the update--My 2009 escape just had the trans rebuilt with the upgrade kit out in az after towing it 2200 miles from ohio, last year they did every thing else to it. ford gave me a free extended warranty, but wouldn't go with remco early on. i also just talked to remco and they claim it's what's needed. so far ford has spent over $5,000 on the fix and they could have solved the problem for under $1,000. sorry to hear about the 2013. i'm going to look around! any suggestions--thanks

Contact REMCO Industries and speak wih Drew Cohoon at 800-228-2481 x751. and he can give you all the details of installing a LP-Ford (6F35) Remco Transmission pump to solve the transmission overheating problem that Ford has with '09 and later Escapes and Mercury Mariners. So far Ford has not agreed to pay for the pump, but it does seem to have solved my problem. Pump and installation with cost you $1500!

Note to rkennedy: as to the warranty being voided by the Remco pump, I DIDN't say it said that. The TSB states the warranty COULD be voided if a problem developed attributed to the pump. Read it for yourself.

As to the need for a Remco pump, they are obviously taking advantage of some people's misfortune with their transmission while towing and see a market opportunity. As for me, I tow my Escape with no problems and if I have one I will rely on the Ford warranty to make it right one way or another.....they certified my vehicle for recreational towing.

It is official. As of Feb 2012 Ford has declared both the FWD and AWD/4WD Escape as NOT TOWABLE FOUR DOWN/FLAT. The FWD can be towed on a dolly. See new thread with link to for manual.
