Towing question

Ok so life happened and my search for an RV got put on hold but as luck would have it things changed and here I go again. So my question is this...does anyone know how strict they are on the total length of your rig? When we go full-time we are going to still be working full time as well so are wanting to get a stacker enclosed trailer for our two cars and my motorcycle. I'm thinking a 24 foot trailer but from what I've read looks like I'd be restricted to about a 36' maybe a 38' motorhome. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Ok I guess I'm just kinda unclear on the length thing because I know that A semi pulling a 53' trailer is longer than the 65' max length so I was just wondering how they got away with it. I mean 65-53=12 and I know the tractor with a sleeper is longer from the front of the trailer to the front bumper than that. Also does it go by your home state rules? I know some things do and some things don't so I wanted to be clear. I've read over probably every site out there that has lengths on it but nothing really answers my questions satisfactorily.

The new law for tractor trailers is 80ft. but a couple of years ago a good freind was stoped in ILL. and ticketed for length with a toaderhome(a MH with a fifth wheel) and a race car trailer. He was over 65ft. He had to drive his RV home and get his 1ton truck and go back and get the trailer and pay a $500 fine.

I have, in several years of reading this and other forums, heard of ONE CASE where an RVer, involved in an accident, got tagged for excessive length.

Take that as you will.. I recommend staying legal.

It IS based on your state of registry. Your states' rules are what applies wherever you are.

You'll still have to go 55 in California.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Not sure what we are gonna do yet. Looking at possibly a Country Coach Veranda and a 24 foot stacker trailer. Not sure on the coach yet tho. Haven't had too much chances to look at coaches lately. Any suggestions good bad or indifferent on coaches? I know there is a lot of opinion that comes in to play here but any thoughts would be helpful.
