Towing rating questions

My dad is looking at a 1998 Winnebago adventurer M35WP. The question that is popping up is if he can tow his 1/2 ton gmc. The rv has a brake controller and a 5k hitch. I know the truck itself can be towed 4 on the ground, but is that hitch good enough or should he look for a smaller vehicle? The reason for asking is because he has an opertunity to get this class A and replace his 5ver. He uses his 1/2 ton to tow the 5ver and would like to keep a perfectly good truck. Thanks for any help you can provide.

We're going to need some more info to be able to answer you.

What's the year/model of the truck? What does the driver's door say is the GVWR? Has the truck been weighed with full fuel/him in it/loaded for camping? What's that number?

Note; deduct the weight of the 5-r hitch because that'll come out when he dumps the 5-r.

It's a 2008 gmc 1500 4x4 ext cab 6.5 bed. I'm guessing that the truck will only have a full gas tank if being flat towed. No he's never weighed it but my Silverado is about 5700 and I have the vortec max pack. He has the standard 5.3 and 4L60E trans. Should be a little lighter than mine.

Just got more info, should come in around 5200 to 5300 lbs.
