The "newer" US Gear system has a second wire that charges the toad battery (thru a diode & fuse). No need for a charger.

The "Newer" The Decelerator had that wire, no diode though, just a pair of circuit breakers. 20 amp "up front" and 40 in the rear.. The in-car controller hooks to the tie line.

And for Hardy1000.. .That was not a 2nd, it was at least a 3rd, if not a 4th

Lots of folks (Myself included) think the US-gear system is simply the best

I also have a 2007 Edge and no air brakes on the Alpine.
Having towed the edge over 16K miles using an Even-Brake and Aventa tow bar on the Edge base-plate, we have experienced no problems.

However, as the Alpine has red stop and amber signal lights, I chose to not tap into the Edge brake light system and installed an auxiliary light bar between the Edge's roof rails and school bus size LED lights aside the rear license plate.

Additionally, I installed a "Toad-Charge" powered directly from the Alpine's chassis battery through the 6-pin connector.

We have been very happy with the set-up and never move the Alpine/Edge combination without 1st installing the Even-Brake.

I have an 07 Edge that I have been towing for a couple of years now. It is a great car that tows very well behind my 07 Revolution LE. I am selling it now because I bought the new caddilac which also is towable. If you know anyone interested in a very low mileage 07 edge to tow let me know. The color is cream. I have just lissted it in the classified ads.
