A good source of 4 down towables is available from the FMCA club or also from Motorhome Mag. If there is a specific model/type of toad you're interested in, search here and you'll most likely get enough information to go speak intelligently to a dealer. Make sure you look in the toads owner manual about this BEFORE you buy just to be safe.

If you want to 4 down tow, you will have to check the owners guide for that specific car for recreational towing. It will list the procedures and restrictions. Then you will need to check out what tow bar and set up with toad brakes you will need to install it all. If you have a specific car you like that is not 4 down towable, a tow dolly will be a great choice. The limits on towing on a dolly is it must be front wheel drive and not 4x4 or all wheel drive.

How do you use the car you tow if you don't unhook to go anywhere?
Wondering?

Tow Dolly
For those of you that use the tow dolly, what do you recommend as far as type or brand/model? What is your experience?

We ended up going with a Fiat Abarth. The manual version can be towed 4 down, ours is 2,400 lbs. Blue Ox (last we looked) is the only that does the tow bar for the Fiat Abarth right now. We also got a Blue Ox tow bar, it was a good deal. We were in the middle of a play but now that is done we will get the braking system and then spend a weekend putting it all in.

I believe he meant unhook the RV, not the toad.

This is what I use Home . It is pretty affordable $1200 with brakes. I have about 3000 miles on it from this years ventures and could not be happier. It takes me about 5 minutes to hook it up to the motorhome and load the car.

We have the EZE-Tow...light, simple, affordable and EZE to use.
Car Tow Dolly -The Lightest and Toughest Tow Dolly For All Car Towing Needs - Acme Car Tow Dolly Company
It pulls just like a flat tow...there is no pivot pan (like U-Haul dolly's) or steering axle...so, the car's front wheels pivot to make a turn. This allows the dolly to weigh-in at just 405lb!
And, the EZE-Tow comes standard with surge-disc brakes (no control in the RV needed) and is already approved to enter Canada (requires brakes and safety decals in english and French).
We have one that has well over 10,000 trouble free miles...and just ordered the new style LED lights and improved straps from the mfgt. EZE-Tow is a commercial sponsor on iRV2 too...we are very happy with our dolly.
Safe travels

I do unhook the toad. I don't want to unhook the RV from the electrical, water, and dump, secure the contents, bring in the slides and jacks. All a lot of work to go somewhere once setup.
Something clear in my mind didn't come out as clear when I typed.

You meant when in a campground.
Got it!
Since we often use the car when we are boondocking or parking overnight without hookups I misunderstood your post.
Sorry.

Acme Tow Dolly
Are there local dealers that sell the EZ tow dolly (Acme) or do you have to purchase it direct from the mfg. ? John

We currently have a tow dolly. I am buying a new car to tow four down because I dislike it SO much. Pull up, hook to the tow bar and off you go is easier in the rain than loading the car on the ramps, lining up straps, tightening them down then pulling over a few miles down the road to tighten the straps again because they have stretched. If you want it to rain when you arrive and leave, buy a tow dolly.

Wrangler.
Go where the madding crowd does not.
See the wildlife and scenery that they will not.
Why be ordinary?
