Towing trailer

Do I need to use a weight distribution hitch?

I'm going to be towing a enclosed trailer close to 9k fully loaded behind my diesel pusher. I have a 10k hitch rating and 360 hp Cummins with 3000 Allison trans.

Assuming you're riding on air bags ... the coach should adjust to the height/weight the distribution bars would handle ... IMO. You are pushing limits on the hitch and coach HP .... but you should be fine as long as you take you time and don't push it ....

Also make sure your not over your GCVWR , which is your total weight of motorhome and trailer, fully loaded with all stuff on board. I'm real close with mine, but not over.

Equalizer hitch

I've been told that while the air suspension system will help level the rig making an equalizer hitch unnecessary, an equalizer hitch will help prevent trailer sway and fishtailing.

Been towing an Enclosed Race Trailer a long time the last 20 yrs or so and I always Use the Bars and an Anti Sway bar. Tows nice - Evan in high winds- that's where you need the Bars.

We pulled an enclosed trailer for a few year. It was 26' plus the tongue and fully loaded with the Jeep and extras, it weighed 12,000#. There was 1500# on the tongue. My hitch had a 10,000# rating. The year after my coach was made, Tiffin installed a 15,000# hitch, so after checking with them, I upgraded to the heavier one. With 1500# of tongue weight, I opted to go with the equalizer hitch with sway bars. It might not have been necessary, but I felt better, especially when hitting a dip in the road at highway speeds. My son pulls a 14,000# trailer with a 2000# tongue weight with his coach on just the receiver hitch, but he also has a 25,000# hitch. His total weight is close to 73,000#, but he hasn't had any issues yet.
