Does anyone tow a 2003 VW BEETLE? If so have you had any brake light problems? Either during or after towing. I use a braking system in the car to assist the car to brake when relayed by the RV. Apparently when that is unhooked the ground wires for the brake lights from the wiring harass is interfering wiith the manufactured braking lights wiring. So I am being told...Cna anyone help?

Hi Bounder 1100! I'd love to hear comments on this, because I'd love to be able to tow a beetle!

I have had several problems with the wiring messing up my brake lights. The VW dealer claims the ground wiring from the tow wirng harness is the casuse of all my brake light problems. Saga continues..... RV dealer who hooked up tow bar and wiring for beetle hadn;t done one before but said they followed directions. I haven't been able to tow it due family problemss when I went to tow it on a vacation system didn't work. Rv delaership found a fuse blown and up graded it to a more powerful one. Now if I could only get this braking wiring problem solved. Other people back in 2009 on this site had same year and model beetle and didn't seem to have any problems .....We will see what happens!!!

This one is easy.. There is a tow light system called "Add a bulb" This system you install an additional brake/turn/tail light bulb in the tail light assembly.

it is 100% independent of the vehicle's brake lights.

Is such a system.

I added socket & bulbs on my CRV but did not purchase a kit. I went to the local Napa dealer and bought two sockets with bulbs. I used extra wire & connectors I had from a previous trailer wiring project. Not hard to do but does take a bit of time. The power to the lights is completely isloated from the tow car.

Thanks wa8ywm and 1ciderdog . I will take that info to my RV service man and see if this will help solve the problem. I discussed it in length with him yesterday and he just doesn't believe the ground wiring is causing the problem....I willl be taking car in next week ...thanks again for you r advise
