Just replaced my wife's PT Cruiser with a 2012 VW GTI with a 6 speed manual transmission with a clutch pedal not the DSG. Question can I flat tow this car and has anybody done the set up to the car to flat tow

I know this is an old thread, and I apologize if I'm wasting anytody's time on here -but I've been searching and still can't find a conclusive answer. I'm looking to tow my 2009 GTI, 6 speed manual 4 down. Has anybody done this successfully with a VW 6 speed?
If you search the forum, many have asked this question. Check out the other threads and responses, no one, as I recall, has 'fessed up to towing a 6 speed. Lots of guessing and suggesting, but of course it's not their $$ if it doesn't work.
