Toyota Tacoma as a toad

Wondering if a Tacoma with a manual transmission and 4 wheel drive can be flat towed?

I've seen many Tacomas being towed flat four.
Don't be discouraged if Toyota says no, that seems to be their standard answer on all models. As long as the transfer case has neutral and equipped with a manual transmission you should be fine. SOP for most is shift transfer case to neutral, trans in second or third gear, key on accessory to release steering wheel lock. I'd search Toyota Tacoma forums to verify your particular year and model is ok to flat tow.

Does it have a manual shift for 4X4 ?

Thread on GX 470's - http://www.irv2.com/forums/f85/lexus...-321018-3.html

Look at Number 26 for procedure before towing.

Best of Luck,

What year is the Tacoma? To my knowledge, all of the Gen2 and forward cannot be flat towed without a driveshaft disconnect. I had an automatic and was looking into trading in for a 4x4 for the very same reason.

Just talked to these guys and they said any 4wd Tacoma with a neutral setting can be flat towed. Exception is a transfer case that electronically shifts the transfer case. This includes ones with automatic transmissions. I sure would like to hear from someone who has done this.

You could input your info on this website and it will clear it up quickly. You'll need to know your transmission model number.

The manual for a 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport, automatic and electric transfer case, states not to tow 4 or even 2 down. But, that doesn't mean it hasn't been done.

Don't have a Tacoma yet until I can figure this out. Talked to these people
Sleeoffroad.com - Toyota SUV Off-Road Outfitters and they said for sure you cannot do it on a electric
transfer case.
