Question TPMS and Towing

I just had an error showing on the TPMS in my 2008 prius. I returned from a 6000 mile trip with it on a dolly 4 months ago.
I had it checked at my local tire dealer, and the batteries in two of the wheels were low and dead, while the batteries in the two that were on the dolly were still in good shape.
Now this may be a coincidence, but could it be that the rotating rear tires were vainly trying to communicate with the receiver / computer in the car and wore out?
Has anyone else had this experience?

Not sure how the Prius system works, but one car I used to have would only send a signal when the sensor was rotating. I would think the Prius sensors are similar/same as other Toyota models and I have not seen similar issues being discussed with them being towed.

I agree they only send a signal when roatating. The other two are probably on their last leg.
