Trailer Brakes

I just ordered a new tandem axle enclosed trailer to carry my car. I have to get educated on the brake controller systems. Which ones work well and will not break the bank? Do I need a special wiring harness for my 05 Dutch Star DP. How difficult would it be for me to hook all of this up and if an RV repair facility does the work, how much time at +/- 120 an hour.

You will want a controller with full proportional braking, these will have an internal sensor for rate of deceleration, and do not depend on a brake light feed to activate.
Your coach may be wired from the dash to the trailer plug, that will shorten the install time . Phoning the chassis manufacturer should provide this info.
You should also check out you coach, to see if the brake light come on with the engine/exhaust brake. The installer will need to know.

What chassis? My freightliner XCM is prewired with a plug under the dash behind the steering column. It was tricky to find. There is an adapter available for it. Takonsha Prodigy (?) is the controller I picked out.
