Trailering a smart car

Well took the plunge and picked up a used smart car for two. I plan on using it as a go for vehicle while I'm out using my Motorhome. I have a 20' enclosed trailer that will br towed by the mh. I'll have my ranger in the trailer on some trips which created the problem I found that only a few vehicles would fit with the ranger. Shortest was the smart car, next was the scion and last was certian older models of jeep but I had a hard time finding any. So I got a deal on a smart car. The dealer knew I had a use but he had a car on the lot for forty day or so so he wanted it moved. I took the car Friday after noon to see what problems I could locate and I did discover a few minor ones. I went back on Monday to negotiate a price for the car as it sat. I had done my homework and knew more about the car than they did and that was from going thru the owners manual and using the Internet. I figured out what it would probably run me to correct most of the items. Then I doubled that and subtracted it from my offer. Talking to the salesman they were not very giving. So I got up to leave, this was for real I couldn't see paying what they wanted for the car. The owner walked out with me and asked me to sit on the bench outside. He asked me what I would be willing to pay I told him he came back with splitting the difference and I said no it just wasn't worth it to me. He caved to my price and I bought the car.

Now I've a trip coming up later this week where I plan to take the car with me. I need to know the best way to tie it down on the trailer. I will not be taking the ranger on this trip but just the smart car.

If you have a smart cart and trailer it how do you secure it.

Our previous MH was a gasser. We trailer pulled the pictured Smart thousands of miles on this open tilt bed aluminum trailer. I always tied it to the trailer using a good grade of tie down straps through the spokes of the rear wheels both forward and aft directions. The front wheels are pulled against fixed stops attached to the trailer bed. This method allows the car suspension to operate as it was designed to while traveling down the road.

No longer owned that MH or the Smart, but it worked great while we owned both.
