US Gear Unified Tow Brake

Has anyone experienced this type of problem with a brake controller?

We had an RV service company install the US Gear Unified Tow Brake system on our new RV and new Jeep. It has been a nightmare. First few trips it worked just fine. Then, in stop and go city traffic, the alarm started going off. Stopped and checked everything and the tow system seemed fine but the Jeep's brakes were SMOKING. Had to disconnect the system and tow the Jeep home without using any Jeep brakes. RV service company replaced the main unit and the unit on the Jeep ($500). Our Jeep dealer had to do a complete brake overhaul on the destroyed brake system ($1000!) Headed out to the Rockies and after the first day, feeling all nervous at the first smell of brakes we disconnected the braking system from the Jeep. The RV was okay with this until about 1,000 miles later when the alarm started going off nonstop. So again, we had to disconnect the whole system and towed the Jeep home brakeless from the Rockies to SoCal! Don't want to think about the load being put on the RV but used gears and exhaust brake as much as possible on grades. Spoke to Lee at US Gear and he cannot troubleshoot this issue, and the RV service company swears this has not happened before.

At this point we own a brake system we've invested a lot of money in and still can't use. Thoughts?

Sorry your here with problems.
Was your RV checked for brake light operation when the exhaust brake is active and the US Gear recommended Diode properly installed to prevent toad brakes from activating with the exhaust brake?

Could you provide all your RV info, year , make, model, chassis, maybe that would help others who may have had similar problems respond.

Lee thought the exhaust brake might have been the issue the first time. I'm pretty sure they checked all this, but I will follow up and confirm. Thanks for the idea.

Tom, there has been a long thread on the exhaust brake / brake light issue, if they come on or not . I know mine do , others say the operation is programmable, seems like the only true tests , check the rear view camera for a reflection at night or have someone follow you with cell phone, contact so you can say when the brake is active and they can tell you if the brake lights are on.
