Used Dolly problem

I just bought a used tow Dolly from a private party. It is a little old,(TowBlazer brand) and it is heavy duty and in good condition. The interior width on the wheel pans go to about 80", and the dollie's fenders are about 84" apart. I just put a Honda Odessy Van on the Dolly (it is about 78" to the outside wheels) and when I took it down the street and turned left, the "skid pan" turned and made several loud metallic clicks as it rotated on the kingpin. Then the fenders on the Dolly started to press against the quarter panels on the car. My question is, is it normal to expect a loud clicking noise as the skid pan (or whatever it is called) rotates on the kingpin in the middle of the dolly, and do you think my car it too wide for this Dolly and any other Dolly I would purchase. This is my first time towing a car on a tow Dolly, and we are a week away from a long trip. Any help from experienced Dolly owners and their Brands would be appreciated. And a toad is not an option for me at this time.

I think the tow dolly's come in two widths. One about 80 inches and one bigger to tow larger cars or trucks. You could check with U Haul and see what they have. We used to tow a Quest mini van and had to get the larger dolly. Good luck

Even with a larger dolly the fenders can hit the bottom sides of the doors.

I've owned two tow dollies - one 80" and a 85". Pulled a Toyota Sienna with the 85" and had about $1500 in body damage after a tight turn into a gas station in Gardner, MT.

I used a tow dolly for 10 years and they were a pain. Lights would never work, body damange, flat tires, etc. It will keep you out of trouble!

There is usually a grease fitting in the top of the king pin. You may want to try to grease that for the clicking sound. But I think that the click might be the car pushing on the tow dolly fender.

You may want to borrow a smaller van. My in-laws had a Dodge Caravan that was much thinner and would go on the tow dolly fine.

Have you checked the wheel bearings? You may only hear a clicking on a turn due to stress on that wheel. Good luck.

BTW...why does it always happen...right before a trip, it breaks.
