Very Disappointed In Camping World

My wife & I have been rving for over 35yrs. and loyal CW customers. 2 1/2yrs. ago CW installed the blue ox base plate and wiring harness on our Honda CRV for $750 + tax. We just traded in our Honda on a Ford Edge and got 3 bids to install the same on the Ford. We had the Ford Dealer give us a bid at $700 + tax and then 2 other bids from 2 different CW's. The one in Denton, TX came in at $1000 + tax and the one in Tyler, TX came in at a wamping $1732 bucks!! Lesson learned.........you get a better deal at a car dealership.

Happy Camping

I notice that Camping World is rarely giving you a "great deal". I never shop there except in a pinch. Their biggest advantage is the Good Sam discounts at camp grounds.

I agree with having the dealer do the install but for a slightly different reason. IMO, if the dealer does the install, it somewhat precludes them from any warraranty issues that could arise.
I ran into the same pricing issue when we bought our CRV. The dealer quoted a lower price than the local hitch shop and then sent it to the same shop for the install.

About the only time we buy from CW is for the specials and I shop them to be sure they are not soaking the customer.

CW is just like it's fellow Auto Mass Merchandisers (Goodyear, Firestone, Sears, Etc.). They are not counting on repeat business - just one good shot at your wallet.

I feel the DIY if your are able. I have used a local RV/trucking company. They do a lot of tow bar installations. They installed my AF One for 250, adjusted tested and retest after final adjustments. I

Not really I would not want a auto dealer doing one - surprised they even quoted - I will go with the professional even it costs more

My neighbor and I installed the base plate on my Suzuki in 2008. The very detailed Blue Ox instructions were easy to follow. Auto Dealer may be better qualified to remove the body work necessary to access mounting points for the baseplate. Baseplate usually designed to mount in existing holes in the frame were possible.
I went over the instructions with the shop at the Suzuki dealer because I was concerned about tripping the airbags.
