Has anyone had a Volkswagen Vehicle as a toad?

If you mean a VW bug with a manual transmission, I've seen a bunch of them. The only thing is you have to make sure that it's in neutral and the steering wheel is unlocked. If it's old enough you don't have a locking steering column. I have one in the garage that if I get home long enough I'm going to slap a new engine in it and maybe use it as a toad. However it might not be big enough. We use our current Subaru Forester as our toy box and you can kayak, ride bikes, go for extended hikes, and camp out if you feel the need. I'm not sure we could fit all that stuff in the Bug.
Good Luck and safe travels
PS I don't have any idea about any other VW products.

VWs general rule is Nein! However, depends on the year, the type of manual transmission you have (some are not towable), and if you can even get a baseplate for that model. FWD (manual or automatic) models can easily be dolly towed, however. AWD cannot be towed and have to have all 4 wheels up.

Well,
First off, according to the Motorhome and Trailer Life Dinghy Towing Guides of many years, NOT ONE MODEL of any VW is AUTHORIZED by VOA to be flat towed. Now, with all that being said, I too have seen many, many late model VW bugs being flat towed. I've spoken with quite a few of the owners in campgrounds and, not one of them has ever had any mechanical issues. ALL of them have been sticks, zero automatics.

There even a few of the owners that had gone to the dealers and, by-passed the service writers and headed straight for the transmission techs. They discussed the potential damage of flat towing a late model stick VW Bug. According to these folks, not one tech stated there would be damage. But, they also said that, they cannot go against Corperate policy. So, do so at your own risk.

Well, quite a few thousand miles later, on all of these VW toads, there's been zero reports of any form of damage. Isn't it amazing, VW can pull the wool over the eyes of America with it's fraudulent smog stuff for quite a few years but, knowing the company has a great following in the Bug, couldn't authorize flat towing of them, hmmmmm, imagine that. Personally, if I had my '03 or '04 TDI VW Bugs still, I'd tow them in a heartbeat.
