Have you tried towing it yet, even without the brake system? I've very curious how it towed, I'm considering one of these for my next vehicle/toad.

Hi Rollins215
Not yet but probably this Sat. or Sun we will leave Ca and head up the coast. Got the brake installed and a tow cover from Coastline. My wife wants to drive it all time so I don't know much it will get towed. Very nice car. Joe and Pam

Anyone tow a VW Eos and how do you do it?

We tow a 2007 EOS VR6 with DSG transmission on a tow dolly. I still tow my Subaru Impreza four down but it is a 6 speed stick. I've had the cheap tow dollys and I understand why people don't like the idea, but our new Demco KarKaddy SS http://www.demco-products.com/pages/RV/kkss.htm is a dream. Have towed the EOS since new this way plan a trip to Canada in late July and winter in Mesa AZ. Great car always gets the looks and questions at the RV Resorts, no SUV for us.

Hay Dr Goodwrench Glad to hear about your Eos. I hate tow dolly's so its four down for us. We just have the basic Car and I have been doing a lot of checking on how to tow it. Vw says no but we talked with the top drive line engineer here in the states and he said it would not affect the transmission to tow it 4 down. Only down side is it will get miles but we don't care. Hope to see you on the road some day. We usually spend the winter in Quartzsite and then some time in Phoenix

I would agree you should be able to tow the straight stick EOS four down, we towed a 1999 VW New Beetle TDI for thousands of miles four down. No problems.

We will be in Mesa, AZ this winter at Desert Vista, stop by for visit. http://www.desertvistarv.com/

Why will you get miles? I thought other VW's don't accumulate miles when towed.

Are you satisfied with the Coastline cover? How's the fit?

We also use the U.S. Gear brake. Any issues there?

Thanks!

Finally got this thing on the road. We went about 200 miles yesterday and can't even tell it was there. Of course with a big DP and a 400 hp Cummins you can't tell much any way. Coast line cover was great. It flaps a little but not much. I think the miles come from the computer and I am not sure about a disconnect for it yet. That was the least of my problems. It is my wife's baby and she was very scared all day long that we were going to ruin it. Joe and Pam

Thanks for the update! That's great news that you didn't have any trouble towing it.

Even better news is that it is not getting miles. I didn't check it the first day but did yesterday and no miles even though VW said it would get them. This is going to be the best tow car ever. Fun to drive, good mileage, lots of power, and great looking, with a sun roof and a hardtop convertible.
Now all I have to do is figure out this board. Joe and Pam

Is there any special procedure to tow the Eos?

Joe & Pam,

We currently tow a Honda CR-V (Automatic), religiously following Honda's prescribed procedure and additionally pulling the radio fuse. Other than leave the parking brake off and the transmission in neutral, is there anything you do with the Eos before towing?

Ken

Nothing special. You have to turn on the key and then turn it off to unlock the steering wheel ( leave it in the ignition in the off position)and then put the transmission in neutral. away you go. We now have about 3000 miles towing 4 down and no trouble. Lots of miles from driving the car but not from towing. Joe

Thank you

Joe,

Thank you for your quick response. We're waiting to see if our dealer can get the Eos with our preferred options (there are very few with manual transmissions to start with).

Thanks also for stream of posts on the subject; they've led us to this point.

Ken
