Thanks for sharing that info.

We towed both of them coast to coast several times without the disconnect, usually at about 70 mph. I just thought a disconnect would stop some of the wear on the parts that were still turning. Between the two they have been towed coast to coast about 12-13 times with the disconnect. If it were not for the long distance high speed towing I probably wouldn't have added the disconnect. We love the little things and routinely carry two Honda CT 90s or one S 90 on the front/back.

I have been looking harder at the vintage Toyota's, pretty sweet and I have never had one. I find that the crawler guys put lockers on the rear "Full floater axles" they call it. It's a bit more money but it gives the side benefit of safety if you have a bearing failure...apparently the wheels and axles can fall out??? But, the money is up there.

I even found a 1985 straight axle truck that is worth saving (Marty's truck in Back to the future), but I hit the wall when I try to determine if it can be thrown on neutral and towed of if it needs a disconnect. Hard data is hard to find on the vintage stuff, and a lot of these guys messing with the trucks are dealing with the 86-95 and newer, and those are the years that use the trail tough disconnect. And trucks that old dont pop up on the REMCO site listing.

The TT disconnect actually disconnects just behind the transfer case while the Remco is back at the diff., but still between the U-joints.
