hello all
just want to know if anyone is towing a 08 fj cruiser? i think i have a handle on what i need to buy but if anyone would like to give advice and comment they would sure be welcomed.. i know i need a tow bar,face plate and maybe a remco disconnect but what about a braking assist..thanks

The best source of information for towing a dinghy is at REMCO Products.

I am not aware of any Toyota vehicels that can be easily towed.

If your FJ has a transfer case check your owners manual and see if you can tow with it in neutral, if not see what it says about towing flat. (all 4 wheels on the ground) You will need a baseplate, this is what is installed on your FJ. You will need a towbar rated high enough to pull the weight of your FJ. Your FJ will need to be wired for braking and tail lights which can be connected to your coach. You definetly should install some sort of braking system. The subject of braking for a toad has been discussed many times on this forum, the bottom line is that in most states it is the law, and from a safety standpoint it is a must-have item. There are many different brands of baseplates, towbars, and braking systems. Check and see what your local dealer sells and installs. If you are comfortable with doing your own work then look at prices on the internet and do it yourself, then can save you a lot of money! Just remember, you get what you pay for, you have a big investment to protect. The same place that sells cheap tow systems and brakes probably also sells cheap parachutes. Stay with the namebrand equipment and you won't go wrong. Good luck and Happy RVing!

I have an 07 FJ that I tow. First, you must have the auto trans, the 6 speed is all wheel drive and cannot be towed. A REMCO driveshaft disconnect is a must. The FJ braking system is a problem, you cannot use a Brake Buddy type system (dont ask how I figured that one out). I use the US Gear system and this works well, they have a kit for the FJ and Hummer type brakes.
