What is best portable brake assist system?
Hello,
We have a Thor A.C.E. 27.1 class A motor home and plan to pull a 2006 Honda CRV AWD. On line I have looked at the portable Blue Ox Patriot II, Brake Buddy Vantage Select and the Roadmaster.
Would much appreciate any advice.
Thank you,
Jim

Hi Jim! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
If I was buying a portable braking system I would get the RVIBrake3! Keep her between the ditches!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I had a Brake Buddy Vantage but sold the '05 CRV Toad as a complete Pkg ready to go.
Decided to go w RVi3 for the new '14 CRV based on reviews here on iRV2. Have only done a short trial but all worked as advertised and anticipated.
Ready to head out Mid Feb for a couple mos.

Just ordered the RVI3 . Also bought their tire monitoring system because it is integrated into the same control panel as the break system

I too purchased the RVI3 system and Tire Patrol system all on one tablet, great customer support, love the 7 inch screen, works great and software updates keep you current with the latest features, also the check list on the tablet helps remembering what you need to do.

We've had a Brake Buddy (original & Vantage) for 12 seasons. No issues.

I've had a Brake Buddy Vantage for 8 years. With the exception of me slamming the door on the plug and breaking it I have had good luck with it. BTW when I called the Brake Buddy People (I was on the road) They Fed-Exed it to me all at no charge. That's great customer service.

Been using my Brake Buddy Vantage two years now. Not one single issue. Love this unit. I use the proportional braking setting and love it. Works perfectly for us.

What is best portable brake assist system?
Rule of thumb, “passive brake systems” under 4000 pounds no problem. Over 4000 pounds one needs an active brake system that brakes the toad as if it were running.
Note on RVI, ordered tire pressure monitors for ten tires. Took 7 days to ship, arrived 4 days later after we left. Order from this company 2 weeks in advance. Their shipping speed is terrible.
Order speed of delivery
RVI 11 days
Remco driveshaft disconnect 3 days
Demco SMI brakes 2 days
Roadmaster front baseplate 2 days
Roadmaster anti-shake hitch locks, in stock at Fretz RV
5 matching Blue Ox keyed pin locks 2 days
Amazon 1/4 inch pin master locks for Roadmaster 2 days,
note, way too much slop in there Roadmaster, added 1/4 inch washers under locks to tighten up. For something at this price point, the vender flip pin, is an insult to the design.

Bought an RVI2 5 years ago, and it has been trouble free the entire time. Going on 40,000 trouble free miles.
30 seconds to hook it up, 20 seconds to remove.
Light and compact...I store it in a back pack when not in use.
If I were buying a new unit, would get an RVI3. No brainer.

I just had to refurb a 13 yr old Roadmaster Even Brake. $300 and good as new. It’s all I’ve ever owned and I have been happy with its performance and portability. It outlived two toads.

Purchased an RVibrake early in Jan. Have driven 2000 miles with multiple connects/disconnects. I love it. Piece of cake to setup. Command Center is easy to use. Planning to add their tpms in the coming months. I also installed their towed vehicle charger.

I really like my RVi3 brake system. Works well, easy to set up. I like the tablet and command center that interfaces with it. I would purchase their tire sensors as well if they had user-replaceable batteries which they do not. I'll keep using my EEZ TPMS for now as I'm extremely happy with it anyway.
My only issue with the RVi3 is that I have nowhere near the center of my coach to plug in the Command Center which must be plugged into either 12v or 120v. I don't have an inverter and there is no 12v power outlet near the center. I have been plugging it into a 12v outlet near the front and all works well anyway.
