What's Wrong With an Old Toad?

I'm with the group that tows older - mine is a 1995 wrangler (I might tow an 86 El Camino when I finish rebuilding it)

I would tow the MKX. I tow a Lincoln MKT that I bought new and have towed since day one. It has been towed about 30 thousand miles and has a very few stone chips that you have to squat down to see, as they are barely noticable. For less than the cost of buying and insuring an old toad, I could have the newer car's front repainted every few years, but I won't because the chips are so inconsequential. And, I get to travel in a much more deluxe vehicle when I'm towing.

Pretty much all older vehicles in our area have body rot up to the windows so a newer vehicle is almost mandatory.

We have a 1997 Ford Escort wagon 5 speed that we have been towing since 1999 and it has been a great car. The only thing is it is pretty low to the ground and getting out of it with a bad back can be challenging. We keep talking about upgrading to either a 5 speed Subaru or a CRV , but I hate to part with a car that runs so good and gets 35-37 mpg. It is also are 3rd car so to speak so it is not a daily driver - just turned 106,000 , just broken in.

A lot depends on what you need. We generally travel with another couple. Consequently, we need something that holds four people comfortably. I don't want to dolly the car and most of the cars discussed here are only two passenger vehicles or larger vehicles that need to be on a dolly.

To get into a comfortable four passenger car or truck, you're pretty much forced to go newer. Older vehicles are fine, but I prefer a newer more comfortable car with all the bells and whistles (as someone put it). I worked hard all my life and I like being comfortable.

We just bought a 2013 CRV two days ago. We now have two toads. I towed my 2012 Silverado for the past 5 years, but decided I wanted something smaller for a coast to coast trip this summer. We'll probably use the CRV and then may sell it if we don't use it enough when we get back.

We're actually looking for a smaller truck that is towable, but still comfortable for four. The new Canyon/Colorado are nice, but there will be several new trucks out next year that I want to see before I buy a smaller truck. I've always owned a truck.
