Wheel straps on dolly

Has anyone had straps come off a wheel while underway? I was on my maiden trip, thus I checked tightness every 5-6 miles on this 25 mile trial. All was fine each time and at 20 miles, I did a final check tightening just a touch. When I got home, one of the wheels was without straps. They were dragging to the side. They were centered as well as I could see prior to take off. Now I am frightened to use it. I did EVERY THING right. Should I acquire another set up straps and put two per wheel or........

I've towed more than 30 K miles with no problems. I suggest you call the maker to see if they have heard of this happening. Keep us posted. Happy Motoring.

Yes, we lost a strap just outside of Las Vegas, went to camping world, bought new straps ( they DO make a difference ) finished our trip, came home, bought a Jeep Wrangler to tow 4 down. That said, what dolly do you have, and what car are towing ( it DOES make a difference )
Why we lost the strap is still a mystery, we had checked them a couple three times during the 300 mile trip and they were snug and tight...
....and we do have our Acme dolly for sale!

I've had straps loosen, but I attributed it to the car settling on the dolly and the nylon straps stretching. To have one come completely off, I wonder if it was wrapped properly on the winch or perhaps the winch pawls popped open, allowing the strap to unwind.

I always added chains fastened to structure under the front, even though it's a pain getting them attached and locked down.

I check mine after 10 miles or sound they always need snugged up but after that I don't have any trouble. Seems pretty odd that it managed to get completely off. I would scrutinize the ratchets real close.

I did have a strap come off a wheel once when we had a Demco Tow-it 2 tow dolly. The reason turned out to be on that model the Towed vehicle's steering wheel needs to be LOCKED. Somehow it wasn't. All that wheel-wiggling worked the strap off.
