When to change transfer case fluid
Do any of you take into account towed mileage when determining the proper time to change the fluid in the transfer case. I tow a 2006 Jeep Liberty and if I count the towed miles, it is time to change the fluid. How about the rear differential?
Anything else I should include with the towed mileage?

Just to be safe I would. Not all the parts is the transfer case move, but some still turn even though the case is in neutral. That reminds me of somthing to add to my to-do list.

Absolutely. When considering fluid changes in the Diffs, trans, and transfer case, all mileage should be added together, MH and toad. Same goes for rotating the toad tires. They are still rolling, just because the odometer isn't adding up doesn't matter.
It's much cheaper and faster to change the fluids than to have to pay for a possible tow and a burned up diff or transfer case.

Yes. I include towed mileage to determine when to change fluid in the transfer case and diff's. I don't use towed miles for the transmission since it doesn't turn when towing.

A transfer case is easier on lube than a axle or trans certainly more so than a engine.
unless you had some sign of water in the lube or leakage I wouldn't worry about it.
Axle (gear lube) goes though a lot when you driveing on that axle. it one of a very few places there is sliding metal on metal in your vehicle. If it is floating with no pressure on the gears ANY kind of oil would be fine. same situation as the case, no water ? full lube level ? no worrys.
I drive my 1999 Jeep to work 5 days a week, and on offroading trips and I change mine only every year. 160K and it has ALL its origanal axle bearings, gears, even drive shafts have never lost a joint.

As stated, include the towed mileage...after all, it's mileage. My Honda manual says to change it sooner if it's being towed.

With no load on the gear sets, I would say less break down of lubricants.

It's only a couple of quarts no? so change it often. In my opinion clean fluid = cheap insuance.
