When to unload

Taking first trip with a toad. We have a tow dolly. When do you unload? Before heading to the site or at the site?

Thanks..............

Depends on if I have a pull thru or back in site. Most of the time at the site, so I don't hold up the registration parking area.

Either---no real protocol except one that the Rv place may have. If they request to unload at registration then do so, or at the site if the opposite is true. Otherwise---we just take a look at the situation----if registration is really busy we may move onto the site area so we do not block the entry any longer than necessary. Usually we unload (we are four down) at registration, my wife follows me to the site.

Also, where ever the most level spot is can determine the best place. My rule of thumb would be make it as easy as possible without inconveniencing anyone else.

I agree that there's no real protocol and various circumstances will dictate. If nobody is waiting at registration we might un hook and I'll follow DW who will take the toad.

I've never used a tow dolly but would think it is very tough to back one up so if you don't have a pull thru it would seem that where you're going to stash the dolly would determine where you unhooked.?

Good luck...

Rick

Six of one half dozen of the other.
You either block the registration area or stop in the middle of the road and block traffic there, until you back into your space
I've seen a lot of us unhook at the registration and tour the park until they locate the perfect site., then go back to the office to tell them your site number.
Whatever floats your boat.

If I don't get a pull thru, I unload the car outside and drive in with DW's help of course. Then I only have to worry about the Dolly when I get to the site. Unhooking the dolly is very quick, pop the catch and away it goes.

I've not used a dolly, but depending on the park's location, we sometimes unhook before we turn into the park.

There's usually a small parking lot in/near the area you check in. As a rule, we go inside and ask if we can drop in that area, then use the toad to go pick out a campsite. Have never been refused, works great...

I agree with the others.

It depends on the situation.

I've done both.

If I don't know the park then I'll unhook while the DW registers us. If I know the park then I might wait till I get to the site. Since I tow 4-down unhooking is only about 5 mins.

Depends.. Many parks have a dedicted area for loading/unloading. I towed 4-down and usually dropped at the site.. However in some cases I'd drop and troll for a site first, then Parking the coach in the big lot,, Today. not an issue: (Anyone got a real cheap towed for sale?)
