Which Hondas can be towed 4-down?
My wife loves Hondas! I would like to have a 4WD. Comfort is a big concern because we do a lot of traveling in the toad. Which models can be safely towed 4-down? Thanks!

As of 2015 only the Fit w/standard transmission.
From 2005 up it's only been the CR-V, then the Fit was added in 2007 as I remember.
There is lots of confusion over this but I've been all through it with Honda support and legal dept. They ended up paying us $2,200 over it.

Joe I don't think any of the Auto Hondas can be towed for 2015 so if you want one you better jump on a 2014 Pilot or CRV right now

I don't think the Pilot has been towable for several years, pretty sure the 2014 Pilot is not towable.

After I totaled our 2000 Odyssey in 2013 I bought a 2005 Odyssey because I knew that although Honda pulled their towing approval for most models in 2004 many 2005 Odyssey owners were towing w/no problems. The Odyssey was the only model we were interested in, so haven't kept up with other models.

Get a 2014 CR-V. That's what we did and love it! Hurry, there aren't going to be many around in a while.

Even though they stopped recommending it for towing after 2005, our 2009 Element is great. It has the same engine & transaxle as the 2009 CRV, which is recommended. Over 8,000 miles towed with no problems.

Marc it was not approved for towing but it is being towed and suppose same Trans as when approved but 2015 trans change in pilot and CRV that is supposed to end good tow cars for us RVers.

See if you can find a 2011 in good shape. They have the hard cover in the rear which not only hides stuff in the back end, but you can also carry stuff on top of the hard cover. Mileage and comfort is great. I'll keep mine until I don't need a toad anymore. BTW, I put a fusemaster in which eliminates the battery draw while towing.

Joe,
Our 2005 Honda Pilot toad is a dream to drive. It is AWD. Seats 8. Very comfortable vehicle. Lots of storage space. We've had about 240,000 km (about 150,000 miles)of very trouble free driving. We've added about 30,000 miles towing, which does not show on the toad's odometer.

Are you dead set on automatics? If not, what about a Subaru? All manual transmission Suburus are towable 4 down, except their two-seater sports car. We love our Impreza, all wheel drive and five-speed manual. Great car!

We love our 2005 Acura MDX. Factory approved to be towed, very comfortable, and basically the same VTM-4 drivetrain as the Pilot.
With any Honda/Acura auto trans. , change the auto trans fluid at least every 15K of normal driving, and 6-9K of towing.
It's a simple drain & fill operation, no pan to drop and no filter. Use only Honda Fluid.
Cheapest insurance you can buy.
