We are going to be going from the west coast to the east coast this summer in our 2002 Winnebago Journey diesel pusher. Neither of our current vehicles (1996 F250 or 2005 VW Jetta TDI) will work for flat towing. We are considering purchasing a used toad and then possibly selling it when we're done. So, after looking around a bit, we've come up with two toads that we like. The first is the Honda CRV and the second is the Jeep Grand Cherokee. We're looking at a 2000 or 2001 for each of these. My question to you in the mh community is, which would you recommend if you had to choose between these two toads? Oh, and we're not wanting to stop every 200 miles or have to disconnect the drivetrain or any othe such matter. Just hook it up and go.

Why not look for a tow dilly with surge brakes and you can tow the Jetta.

I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee set up for towing and it works great. I also have a 2008 Rubicon and it works great also. The Rubicon got 9000 towing miles last year on our trip around the country and 8000 driven miles. I would recommend either.

The preferred vehicle for a toad is the one that suits YOUR needs best. The CRV is a good choice. It's lighter than the Grand Cherokee, and it will likely get better gas mileage. On the other hand, the Grand Cherokee will have more room inside, it will have a have a bigger engine, and it will probably have true 4WD (not AWD).
