Wiring a smart Toad to a Holiday Rambler Vacationer

I am a new owner of a 2008 Holiday Rambler vacationer XL 36WBD. It only has 23k miles and in great condition. I just picked up a 2010 smart car that is equipped with a road master towing system and is already wired with a 4 PIN round connector......I have a 7 PIN connector into the MH that goes out to a 6 pin round with an adapter that goes to a 4 flat connector and converts the four flat to a 4 PIN round....right signal on MH runs the four ways and left signal does nothing on the smart.....wondering what I need to do to get the lights working.....thanks. Read somewhere I think some kind of converter on the MH.

macker1-

First off, welcome to iRV2!

Second, you should add a "signature" to your profile. It contains whatever info you want; most people put info about their coach there, so they don't have to type it into each message. Instructions for adding a signature are here.

As for the hitch wiring:

1) According to the owner's manual (link here, page 20), your coach came with a hitch connector that had both 7-pin and 4-pin connectors on it. Does your coach's hitch connector match the one in the manual, or has someone replaced it?

2) There is no need for a converter on your coach, and there should not be one. To check if there is a converter, look under the coach and follow the wiring from the connector forward. If there is a converter, it would be mounted in line with the wiring, somewhere within the first three feet from the hitch connector.

3) The best way to figure out what is happening is with a test light or voltmeter. Do you have either of those tools? Start at the motorhome's hitch connector and verify that each signal is where it should be.

4) For an idea of what signals should be on what pins, see this diagram ("Vehicle-Side 7-way RV Standard").

Toad wiring

Really appreciate the response. Pretty sure the connector does not have a four pin flat so must have been replaced.....I do have a way to get in touch with the original owner so will inquire. Too bad I did not ask before putting the unit in storage yesterday for the winter. Will look at signature info so thanks for the heads up, looking at MH’s for a few years and finally pulled the trigger.. have great day
