Has anyone gone from a Wrangler tow to a Grand Cherokee toad? I'm curious with different
weight factors. Can't get a really good answer, but there seems to be about a 600 - 900 lb weight increase. Thanks.

We went from 07 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, lifted, 35's and a lot of armor to our 11 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Never weighed either of them. I can't tell any difference in towing. The cherokee is easier to hook up than the Rubicon. On the Cherokee, basically just push a button to release transfer case, take out key and lock doors(no steering lock). I miss the Rubicon, but going full time RVing soon and only need one car.

I will really miss my JK. But, wife can't drive a stick. It has only 1800 miles on it but around 10,000 towed miles. I'll get over it!

I doubt very seriously you'll see and or feel any weight difference in towing the GC from towing the JK. Many guys are under the impression that Jeep Wranglers are not all that heavy. Yep, they're heavier than they realize. Even from the factory, 99.9 of them are over 4K lbs. in weight. Then add all the crap, lifts, heavier tires and wheels, heavy bumpers and side "nurf" (protection) bars, extra roll bar components inside, spare tire racks and much more, they get up there, approaching 4500-4700 lbs. in a hurry.

I'm not sure just what a GC of any year ACTUALLY WEIGHS but, based on the rolling resistance of a JK or, TJ or CJ or YJ and of course with the "mogombo" tires that about 99% of us put on there for quality off road application, you'll actually have seriously less rolling resistance with a stock-tired GC. So, even it there's any weight difference, you're not going to notice it.

Heck, we just went from towing a Honda CRV to a full sized, 2011 GMC Sierra Extended Cab 1500 4x4 and the coach acts the exact same on the grades I'm familiar with as it did before changing toads. I was expecting some really noticeable weight back there, nope, didn't happen. Good luck.

If you really must know, it might cost you only a few bucks but, cruise on down to the local van and storage facility or, even a refuse disposal company as many of both have accurate scales for their business. I just took our GMC to the one (recycle-refuse disposal out fit) near us and the nice lady in the booth if I could weigh the pickup. She asked if I wanted an "official" statement, I said "nope" just something on a scrap piece of paper 'cause my memories so bad. She said fine, motioned me to pull forward and, it was all done in seconds.

Now, this is where I say to get the weight your self, ON YOUR CAR! The reason, the Dinghy Towing Guide in Motor Home magazine for the year of our GMC stated that truck weighed, I think, 4953 lbs. Well, that "certified" scale showed it at 5300 lbs. on the DOT! So, again, I'd confirm it for yourself, on both vehicles, if you're really concerned. Good luck.

Your right about the weight of all the added "stuff." My JK above that I just traded in, was dealer setup. 2" lift and the largest tires you can put on a 17" wheel. One had a cracked valve stem awhile back and it almost took two of us to rebolt it. Thanks for your input.
