Wrangler JL 3.0L Diesel
Anybody else interested? Reports say that there is an order code 26 for the 3.0L Ecodiesel for the 2019 JL. This has my attention.

I heard the same rumors. Honestly, I'm averaging 21 in a new JL Rubicon with the 2.0L turbo running regular unleaded at $1.949 a gallon. My 2014 Grand Cherokee 4x2 with the Ecodiesel gets around 27 mpg at $2.999 a gallon of diesel. The fuel economy didn't peak my interest.
With that said, I'm interested to see the performance specs on it. Our 2018 JL is a lease, so I may lease one of the diesels after this lease is up.

Wow! 1.05 difference in your area? Usually fluctuates from even - 25% around here. Wouldn't' matter to me anyway. I like the feel of a diesel (low end torque) and have been driving a diesel vehicle since the early 80's. Several times over the years we have had two diesels in the family.
Just out of curiosity, will they let you use a lease vehicle for a toad?

I have also been patiently waiting for diesel JL info. Hopefully the engine will result in close to 30mpg highway.
Here in Ohio it’s $2.20 for 87 and $3.20 for diesel. A few days ago 87 was $1.92
My biggest concern is it’s going to be a $70k vehicle
My lightly optioned 2016 JKU rubicon hard rock had a sticker of +$49k, I believe a well optioned JLU rubicon can go over $60k

Well Gang,
I just watched a video of the "revealing" of the new Jeep "Gladiator". In case you're not aware, it's the new Jeep JL Pickup. Pretty interesting specs. But without going into a bunch of detail, they ( the reps from FCA and specifically a Jeep designer), stated the diesel IS NOT GOING TO BE AVAILABLE UNTIL 2020. Now, just what part of 2020, he did not say. They're proud of their proven 3.6L Pentastar and will continue to use it. But, they said that new diesel will have about 445 ft. lbs. of torque. We'll see.

If it follows suit, it is a $4500 add-on.
Funny story. back in 2007, I went to drive a Mercedes GL 320 diesel. It had a 3.0L V6, the same one used in their Sprinters. Having owned several diesel pickups, I asked the salesman how much of an add-on it was. He replied "It's not and add-on, it's a $1500 deduct from our V-8". I ended up buying one and DW drove it for 5 years.

The same thing happened waiting on the RAM 1500 with the Eco diesel. Kept pushing it back.

Yep,
That diesel version was SUPPOSED to be cut loose when the JLs were first introduced. But, as we all see, didn't happen. The Jeep design engineer also spoke of the fact that "some" folks wanted a V-8 in a Jeep wrangler. Well, he proceeded to explain, quite logically, why a V-8 won't be put in a Wrangler. First and foremost was the fact that, the V-8 request is very, very limited. He's not seeing nation or, world wide demand for it. The V-6 Pentastar has filled most power gaps very nicely. Of course a V-8 fits. It's been proven many, many times with different versions of a V-8 and even a few V-10s.
But, even though he said it fits the engine compartment, he said it also OVER STUFFS the engine compartment. He went on to state that FCA has to work very closely with NHTSA and many other enforcing authorities when it comes to "crumple zones" etc. If you stuffed a V-8 in the engine compartment of a Wrangler, you've virtually eliminated the drastically needed air space for crumple zones etc. So, while a few of us would really like to see it, it AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN, PERIOD.
As for the diesel, well, when I see one in a Jeep, sitting on our local Jeep dealer showroom floor, THEN is when I'll believe they're installing them.

Was at LA auto show this week; asked about the diesel from FCA reps in front of Wranglers (Gladiator), Grand Cherokee, and Ram 1500. All three said it “was coming”.Wouldn’t say “soon” or “couple months”, just said it’s coming. They have no idea.
Given FCA is in business to make money, and they are leaving money on the table by not offering this engine right now, I’ve got to believe emission issues are still being worked out.

I don’t buy the v8 takes up air space or over stuffs the engine co,part, ent for crumple zone. He’s throwing BS your way.... look ant the engine compartment of just about any new car, they are packed in there.... Yes it could reduce airspace for cooling but one would think they could figure it out.... I would think a big reason why is simply cost, not just the added cost that we as consumers pay but also how the epa would hit it for poor fuel economy. I would think it would be a low volume engine option thus a expensive option.
I have always read v6...then turbo 4....then diesel for the JLU. I would think it has more to do with keeping people interested plus getting the assembly lines worked out before all engine options, top options etc are available.
Personally, instead of a v8 a turbo 6 be it a v6t or i6t would be great. The present 3.6L v6 really needs more power
