On a standard shift Wrangler 2023 the book says transfer case in neutral but transmission gear. Any thoughts??

You mean "in gear"? Yes, manuals should be put in gear. Top gear, I believe.

sounds like this might be too late but if you were ever going to upgrade your bumper now would have been a great time Rock Hard Industries has optional clevis receivers for all the major tow bars that bolt onto the bumber and thru the frame

I have a '14 Wrangler that I tow. Just in case you didn't realize it, one of the great things about towing a Jeep is that once you've gone through the steps with dis-engaging the transmission, you can take the key out of the ignition and lock the doors if you want to.


Early on, I didn't realize this, and I was going through the extra step of disconnecting the battery. Turns out this isn't necessary since you can just take the key out and the steering won't lock up.
