I'm wondering if there is any adjustment of the brake shoes necessary on the P30 parking brake? If so what is the procedure?

Yes, but don't worry too much about it if you have never had it operate as an emegency brake. To adjust it you have to drop the drive shaft and pull the drum. At this point you can then remove the blank (punch it out) from the backing plate, which gives access to the adjuster with a brake spoon. If you take the shortcut and punch in the knockout without removing the drum you run the risk of entraining the slug between the drum and the shoes in which case you wouldn't have any brake left to adjust. If you have had an unintended emergency stop when the AAPB was unintentionally automatically applied be aware that ther is a lot of heat generated when this happens. So much so that in my case the nylon sheath within the cable as it is attached to the drum melts, deforms, and then binds on the cable preventing full release of the brake. Good luck!!
