As I just traded in my 2003 Itasca in June, this is what I learned the dealers do when calculating a trade in price.

Go to the NADA website and click through the menus to get the year and model of the motorhome you are considering.
For example, in my case: Itasca, 2003, Suncruiser 35U Workhorse.

Put ONLY the mileage in the box (50,000 miles) and do NOT put any of other adds ons down. Click 'Get Used Value'. Pay the Low Retail value ($50,208) which is what the dealer will give for a trade. That is about the lowest price you can find unless someone who does not have a clue about the rig's true value or if the rig has been damaged.

NADA can also give you a price for the 5th wheel and the big Ford. But remember, your going to take the same price hit on your current setup.

Good luck!

if you can't get it for half way between low retail n wholesale move on to the next one. the market is drownding in used rv's. if your talking to a dealer don't believe anything he says!

No dealer will 'pay low retail'. Theoretically, he will pay 'wholesale' and lots of luck getting that

I think I have read that dealer wholesale is about 70% of the NADA low retail.

Just remember that it's your money. If you are serious about purchasing you can offer anything that you want. However, if you know what the vehicle is worth before you start to negotiate you will be better off.

Nose around the PPL Motorhomesite. They used to have a page showing their recent sales and prices.

Here IT IS:

Real value is only what someone is willing to give you for what is for sale. Start off at a wholesale price if the unit is in good condition. Negotiate up to the point you are willing to pay for it and walk away if they do not agree.

You can find the NADA Low and Average Retail numbers at www.nadaguides.com and click Recreational Vehicles.

If the coach is on consignment or a private sales, the seller may not have a realistic view of the market value. All you can do is make an offer and wait for him to come around to it.

Low volume dealers don't even want to come down to Low Retail, so again, make your offer and stick to it. He may take the bait right away if he is hungry for cash, or he may call you in a few days. If not, move on.

I've heard that high volume discount dealers are actually offering LESS discount than previously. With sales down, there are far fewer sales each month to cover the fixed operating costs, so they have less working room on each transaction.

Very good words Gary

Doit, its always been "what ever the market will bare". Don't be looking for any hot deals from dealers these days.
