Consider a new Norcold DE-0061/EV-0061

DE-0061/EV-0061 | Products | Thetford

7 cf, separate freezer door, 12vdc compressor, 3.2 amp when running, plus 120v input and draws only 0.4 amps on 120vac.

Winnebago is now installing these as standard equipment in some models.

3 years ago went with residential only fridge. We always camp with electricity so the fridge is only off when we are traveling and not running the generator. Fridge always keep foods frozen and cool. We never had the need for propane or extra batteries to run it......your camping style may differ

Went froma Dometic 1492 propane/electric.. after 2 change outs of the cooling units bunched it and went with Samsung 18.. factory (4) D8D gel batteries for the house and 4 for the chassis with a "boost" switch to tie them together if needed to start the Cummins.
We boondock 90% of the time and normally run the gennie morning and night for 2 to 4 hrs...just to get the batteries up to the "float" charging stage. OR if we are really out in the puckerbrush, just set the gennie on "auto start/stop" and not worry about it.(12 kw kabota Powertec)

Refrigeration with 12 volt is well known for problems. Poor performance and no 12v cooling from burnt control boards are the issue. High amp draw on 12volts fries the board.

120 volt and propane frig option is all thats needed for “off grid” and “camp ground” with power. Off grid in my case means race track camping for the weekend and continuous generator operation is not “aloud”.

As CharlesinGa has suggested, there is a "new generation" of 12 volt fridges entering the RV market. Unlike traditional 12 volt fridges like the Norcold 1200 series which use gas absorption technology, the new generation use 12 volt compressors like those used in residential fridges powered by 110 volts. This technology has been used for marine fridges for many years and the numerous RVers who moved from boating to an RV, can attest to its efficiency and reliability. It is somewhat surprising that it hasn't been utilized sooner in RVs.

Had a 12v/120v compressor fridge in my van conversion built in 1966. Worked well but was a battery killer if parked more than overnight. One battery BTW.

I spend a at least six days a year without AC and sometimes more.. now since those six I'm "on the road again" ... The house batteries stay charged... And my dual power (Gas/Electric) fridge works on Propane. and the food stays good.

And the fridge has its own built in inverter to take the 120vac and turn it into 12vdc. This is similar to some new washing machines that have dc motors and use diode banks to take AC and make DC. This allows variable speed and direction without gearboxes, etc.
