1988 Holiday Rambler Aluma Lite XL 24'

Hi, I've just bought this unit from a nice couple a few towns over. The unit, an Econoline 350, has no documentation and I can't find any on the internet. The previous owners used it so little they don't even know how large any of the tanks are. If someone knows, I'd appreciate knowing the size of
Fresh water tank
Grey tank
Black tank
Propane tank
Water heater tank
Gas tank

If no one knows, do you know where I might look to find out? Previous owners put in some propane, they said the stove worked, never tried the oven. They say the fridge didn't work but I wonder if they never leveled it.

Thanks for any help, Bette

This is a 1991 manual that covers both Class A and Class C (referred to in the manual as "Mini-Motorhome") and has specs for all models.

Looks like the the 24RB Class C version had 22 gal both for gray and black and 27 gal for fresh water.

This is just a guess as 1991 models were probably not much changed from earlier models.

Water heater is probably typical 6 gal model used in almost everything.

Fuel tank for the E-350 shows to be 36 gal.

Charles

Thanks and new questions

CharlesinGA, many thanks for the manual!! It's a great help though now I have more questions. At the back of the manual it decodes the serial number, which I took a picture of when it got to the mechanic. The last digit of the length has a cut in it so it's difficult to read but I'm now thinking I have a 27 foot Class C, especially as it has a tag axle which the 24' does not. I'm stumped by the last four digits "1235". The "1" appears to be key 7, chassis for RV, but that leaves 3 digits for key 8 and there is no decode for "235" or for "23" or "35". Will be calling the mechanic today to check on progress, and bill . Wish me luck.

Ongoing repairs

Yup, that's according to the manual CharlesinGA was kind enough to find and post. The 27 footer is the only Class C with a tag axle and as mine does have a tag axle, it must be 27 feet long. It's longer than what I wanted, would have preferred a shorter Class C but the price could not be ignored.
As for the ongoing engine repair, the mechanic is going to convert it to use a carburetor instead of fuel injectors. Cost around $3500. Then there will be tires and repairs, if any, to the breaks, transmission, and suspension. Though I've read that a tag axle makes the ride smoother, which if true will be nice.

Just replace all the injectors, mechanic is ripping you off, replace all of them and start from there, when they sit for years, fuel turns bad and gums up efi units BTDT. I would never convert back to a carb, thats old school, cuz he cant fix a injected motor.

Where to begin....

My parents bought a Holiday Rambler T-27 new in the fall of 1977. It stayed in our family for over 30 years and accumulated nearly 200,000 miles. I was around it and helped maintain it for all those years. It was officially mine for about 5 years. There's a picture in my registry, just click on it over there <<<.

Few thoughts.

I agree, getting rid of the fuel injection is a HORRIBLE idea. And $3500?? That would double what you have in the motorhome, that's crazy. You didn't mention engine issues in your posts, but obviously it has some? What is it doing? Has any basic maintenance been done?

The tag axle setup. The Mor-Ryde setup's rubber springs are known to wear out and fail. Click on some images in this search for more information. The good news is Mor-Ryde still exists and can help if you have trouble. It did add some weight to the GVWR of the E350 chassis, but the basic chassis was an 11,000 pound rated chassis. Ours lived at about 14,500 pounds. Constant maintenance was required.

Tanks sizes etc. I'd bet the 1991 information is close. Our water tank was a big rectangle, it'd have been easy to measure it and know how big it was. The grey and black tanks weren't that big. They made it about 20 years. I replaced them with bigger tanks that didn't leak while I owned it. Ours didn't have a Ford gas tank. It had a rectangular metal box that held about 35 gallons. It leaked when it was full, so it go replaced with a modern E450 (1996 or newer) 55 gallon tank modified to about 62 gallons usable capacity. That was very nice. Almost doubled the range.

Got some pictures? There weren't a lot of the tag axle units built even though they built them for like 15 years. Pictures always bring back memories.

According to the mechanic, the fuel pump was not working, had something to do with the EC unit (something electrical). Ford no longer makes the EC unit and one can't be had so the lowest cost method to get the engine running was to convert it to a carburetor.
I'll go over and post some pictures.

Correction, it was the ECM that some previous mechanic tried to fix, then unplugged and then proceeded to dismantled other parts of the engine. My mechanic put it all together and discovered the ECM was not working at all and another is not to be found. Had the ECM been working or another located they would have just replaced the injectors.

Hi Rambling213 welcome on board, so what I'm getting is fine MH but Engine Control Management system a mess. like others mentioned ITO plus one injection is best or second a stand alone throttle body injection system MSD, Holley, ...and on. Myself I understand following a "want to be mechanic" messing with ECM internals and other things. Most of us home maintenance and vehicle service mechanics who are good (was that nice enough?) maintaining our rigs. and then there's RV insurance. When you get it running take it to a Transmission specialist mechanic and have them drive and inspect. enough of this.....
27 ft not a bad size what I'm guessing, Fords 460/E4OD which has a thirst for fuel just like the V10 (my 97) that replaced them. Both great engines.
Best of luck with your new adventure and happy trails

Can’t get an ECM? My first search on eBay got 48 items. Used, rebuilt, lots to pick from.

You can also search for “PCM” or “EEC” more names used for the ECM.

I was stunned that "mechanic" could not find one. REALLY? I find another mechanic, easy fix, jumper the fuel pump relay in the engine fuse box, that year was not a modulated pump, just needs 12v and a ground. Where do you live?

Hi Rambling213, didn't mention yesterday because of overload but I believe your ECM assist in shift point for you tranny (TCM) good luck with your project and your friend wrenching for you.
I did run across a picture of a early Tag axle Lite and on holiday rambler Web site they have a 1990 manual but it is Class A
