I am looking at a 2015 class C MH that was driven 30 miles and then brought back to dealer, traded in on class A MH , any thoughts on how much of a hit these first owners took? I know aprox. what they paid for it and am trying to figure out what to offer dealer for it. [it had a small amount of cosmetic damage to the decals on the slide that have been repaired] Trying to figure out if it loses 20% value like a car when you drive it off the lot, and it is then "used".

The rig is considered "used" if it's titled to an owner. Before that it could simply be "test drive miles" which shouldn't affect the selling price.

Start by finding what the MSRP was on the unit in 2015. If the original owner was sharp and did his homework prior to purchase, he would have been able to negotiate a 30% price reduction off MSRP as his purchase price. However, any dealer add-ons requested by the original owner probably would have been extra but at a negotiated price as well. The fact that it was driven only 30 miles would probably be secondary to the fact that it's now a year older and depreciated regardless of the miles.

Give them your best shot from there.

The original MSRP was 109K and they paid about 75K for it and it was titled in their name, so it is used. Used value sites are still saying it is worth more than the price they paid for it, so those sites are not much help to me. It has been on their lot since Sept. Just trying to come up with a reasonable offer, and get my best deal!

I would think anything at 10% off what they paid. If the RV still rates way above, this spring it will hold near that or more minus any small discount. I would do a GOOD test drive to any problems the original buyer might have found, but sounds like they just had the itch for bigger.

Don't forget to factor in how much of the warranty they used. Once a vehicle is sold, it triggers the warranty time clock.

Didn't the MH have delivery miles on it, they usually have hundreds of delivery miles on them unless they are in the same states as the builder.

Most warranties don't cover second owners but there are some that do. OP would need to check with the manufacturer about that to be sure.

The class C MH had 30 miles put on it by its first owner, plus the 350 delivery miles. I should probably get the warranty info. in writing! Thanks to all for your help!

I would make every effort possible to contact the original owner. Trading in anything with only 30 miles of use is not a normal situation IMO.
Maybe they had more money than they needed or maybe there was a problem the seller is not disclosing.
Interesting. I'd like to know why!

Albeit my first new RV was a TT not a MH so no miles recorded. I brought it back to the dealership after using it for just one trip. RV's are not like cars and many times it's the first time a buyer has ever owned one. In my case my tow vehicle hated the TT.

I would agree with this, there is some reason they brought it back. My guess is that there were warranty issues and they may have had it sitting in the shop too long and decided enough was enough. We met a Couple that did the same thing after seeing our MH while out camping. They had Class C that was only 6 months old, and they still had a list of 20 things that needed to be fixed. They hadn't really had a chance to use it very much since buying it so they took it back from the shop just to go out in it while they waited for "parts". Anyway they called us about a week later and said they had just taken it back to the dealer, traded it in and bought a new Class A. This isn't the same trade up as someone who bought a TT whose tow vehicle wasn't big enough.

Maybe it's just a fluke but I would definitely have it checked out by a third party inspector before buying.

What make and model is it? Is it a gas or diesel? Some C Classes like Jayco Seneca, and Dynamax C Class do not depreciate as badly after the first few years. For example, I had a 2006 Jayco Seneca, bought in 2007, sold it in 2011 for $75K. I still see the 06 Seneca listed today for around that price. I think the make and model would definitely have an impact. Just my 2 Cents.

The story I got (from the dealer) was that a couple bought the MH (a 2015 Thor Outlaw 29H) online, flew in and drove it away. The wife woke up the next morning crying, saying it was too small, so they brought it back to the original selling dealership, and traded it in on a class A Outlaw. (they must have just spent the night @ Walmart or something since they only put 30 miles total on it.) I haven't had a chance to get back to the dealer yet but they have reduced the price about 6.5 % off the original selling price, which is at least a step in the right direction. Thanks to all for your help, really learning a lot from these forums.
