Would some experienced users give me some opinions in regards to choosing an awning. I bought my first RV, a 24' Jayco last year. The awning was ripped off. I am ready to order a new one. I am a casual user in the midwest, lots of wind and sun in most camping spots.

I see I have a number of choices:
Vinyl - Acrylic
Manual - Auto
Thickness choices - tensile strength
Support arms that are legs or just fold out
Arms with piston or just slides.

I have decided that I want vinyl and the color, that's about it.

Thoughts or ideas? THANKS

I am not sure if you are asking about electric or manual but I will give you my opinion/experience.

I had a Jayco Jay feather that had an electric awning that was just about useless as there was no slant adjustment and all it was good for was shade at midday.

I next had a Rockwood Signature Ultra Light 5th wheel that also had an electric awning that had some slant adjustment but not a lot so it was better than useless but not as versatile as a manual.

I now have a Class C with a manual awning and would never have another electric awning again. I can slant it for sunor rain and it seems to be more sturdy than the e;ectrics I had.

Granted it is not 'push button' but I like it a whole lot better than an electric awning

Thanks I have decided on manual. I just wonder if the type of arms and material really make that big of difference?

My C came with the first electric awning I have ever had. There are pistons I guess because I can manually slop either side for wind & rain. I really like it so far. If I am inside and the rig starts to move due to wind. I do not even have to go outside to pull the awning in. If the original awning was not electric. I think another manual is best because of the wiring involved.

All the manual ones I have had were such that you manually raised or lowered one side and mechanically locked it into position so rain would run off. The manual ones are more sturdy arm wise in my opinion.

Material wise, ya get what ya pay for….

We have a Dometic 920 and it is very well made, works very well and tilts to remove rain water.

Our former coach, a Class C Lazy Daze, came equipped with a Fiamma awning. I liked the way it used a crank to open and close, and that when closed the awning was completely inside an aluminum casing. You can see the Fiamma awning offerings at this link.
