awning issue on 98 four winds class c

I recently acquired 1998 four winds class c motorhome, so I am trying to correct some issues on it. I notice that the rear lower awning bracket is loose. I have taken the 2 lag bolts out and seems the holes are wallowed out. one bolt will snug up the other won't. are the lag bolts screwed into wood or metal frame? I ran an ice pick inside and it seems to be hitting steel. If this be the case then I assume the hold can be drilled deeper and a longer lag bolt inserted. but if its wood then what would be the repair method/procedure? I can't tell if this is above the floor or below. If above then it would go inside the closet and a pretty easy repair. anyone had any experiences with something like this? need some help/advise please
thanks
Tom

Got the awning bracket problem fixed. I thought the lag bolts looked a little short. whenever the awning brackets were installed, they only went through one side of the aluminum frame. I drilled through the other side and installed 3 inch long 3/8 size lag bolts which are one size larger. used some locktight and they tighten up as they should.
