Awning tiedowns

What are the pros/cons of using a spring on awning tiedowns. Thanks!

PRO: the awning is tied down. in slight winds, prevents awning from tearing.
CON. the awning is tied down. in heavy winds the awning will tear.

We stopped using our tie down, and retract the awning when we are away , or when a wind comes up. Better safe then sorry.
