I seriously doubt the Tekonsha controller will work for towing a Tacoma. Tekonsha only makes controllers for electric brakes.

Tekonsha - Proportional Controllers

The brakes on your Tacoma are hydraulic

I tow a 2007 Tacoma dbl cab. It was set up with the Unified brake system when I bought it. I had to install the control part in the RV. The system works great. I also use a drive shaft disconnect.
