CB Antenna Hood Mount for E-450?

I have been searching for a hood mount (mounts between hood and fender) CB antenna bracket for my 2013 Ford E-450 chassis motorhome. I have seen several for F series Ford trucks but hasn't found one specifically for later model E series.

Could someone point me to a hood mount that works for a E-450? I am trying to pair the mount with a 3' firestik antenna and spring.

I think you will find that the antenna will work a lot better up higher. Mounting on the hood will block most of the signal to the rear.

Was thinking that as well. Other option was mounting antenna to the rear ladder but then have to deal will either grounding the antenna and/or ladder. Honestly I think the ladder option might look better than having a 3' or 4' antenna on the hood. Time to research ladder mounting options.

Yes, the higher the better, even if it means a shorter antenna.

I don't see any difference in my e 450 and the e 350 that I had. The body and hood area are the same as far as I know. Good luck.

I was considering ladder mount also. Can anyone confirm that this will still need an NGP antenna?

I did some checking and my ladder on my Winnebago Access is indeed NOT grounded. Based on my research most ladders are not ground and do indeed need a NGP antenna.

The Firestik NGP antennas look to be the best. They sell a kit that includes the antenna and a 3 way mount (ideal for ladder mounts) and run around $40 to $50 for the kit. I just need to decide what length of antenna to get.....I am leaning toward the 3' version which should give me 12" to 18" above the RV.

So very true! I didn't know this until I read the instructions for the NBP antennas.

Summary:

1. Don't cut the coax "tail" coming off the antenna.
2. When adding coax extensions, use coax coupler and add in increments of 9' (9, 18, 27, etc.)

Back in 1977 I built my own hood or rather fender, mount for a CB antenna.

I took a flat piece of steel, Thick enough to do the job and bent it like this (Disregard periods).

When you do the lower bend you bend it to match your fender's angle.

A single fender mounting bolt went through a hole in the bottom of the bracket, antenna mounted in the top and the bracket was painted to match the vehicle. Antenna goes to the OUTSIDE over the fender.

That way.. NO holes were drilled, A bit of felt can protect against abrasion and it worked well.

I plan on mounting mine on the coach, side mounted, right behind the drivers door with the top of the whip the same height (or slightly higher) as the roof ac.

Since I am planning on doing most of my driving in the right hand lane, this should give me pretty good xmit and Rx.

But if you search around, they do make an angled hood lip mount specifically for the E series vans.
