Question Child seat restraints

I just purchased a Coachman Leprechaun. The couch in the back of the coach only has lap belts, no shoulder restraints. Can anyone recommend a restraint system for a 5 and 8 year old who will be in car seats on the couch in the coach? :thumb

I can't help, but I've been wondering the same thing myself. One granddaughter just graduated from a front-facing car seat to a booster, and there's now a grandson on the way. The car seat had extra straps in the back that went over the back of the seat to an attachment point on the floor behind the seat. The booster seat could be a problem without a shoulder harness though. So I'm obviously quite interested in what others do about car and booster seats on the rear bench.

Our 2012 class c has loops on the forward facing dinnet seats behind the seat back for hooking child seats too.

My rig has one anchor point for a front facing infant seat, the problem is the youngest just graduated to a car seat. Lets see if we get more input.

You didn't specify if the couch was side or forward facing. NEVER secure a carseat, etc. in a side-facing configuration - they will only be effective in a front or rear facing placement. If you have a rear facing seat at a dinette with a lap belt, that can usually be configured with a carseat in a rear facing position.

What you're looking for is probably a way to add a LATCH system to your coach. That's the system used to anchor a child restraint seat to a car. There are kits to do this, but since it is an involved procedure and has specific structural requirements I would never suggest anyone do this yourself. Perhaps calling a good RV dealer to see if they know of an aftermarket company which does installs like this.

In our coach we have used the Britax Marathon https://us.britax.com/marathon-click...ble-car-seats/

and Britax Frontier https://us.britax.com/frontier-click...ng-only-seats/

They are both compatible with lap belts.

Is it possible to add shoulder harnesses to the couch in the back? Or replace the seat belts with a shoulder harness version. Talking Class B vans, of course. The Winnebago Era has them on the two ends of the couch/bed, so I suppose it's possible. That would make it possible to use a booster seat back there, with the added protection of a shoulder harness.

I don't know if that can be done at all with a B+ or C, though. What would you attach the reel end to, up high?

I went under the seat and bolted in to the existing tie seat belts addition MC straps with metal hooks. I ran the new strap up right about the cushion. I use the tether on the child seat to connect to the new strap. It works great.

I have twin grandsons. We have travelled in several large class Cs ... first trip was a rented CruiseAmerica , then we purchased a Coachmen Freelander, and more recently got a Winnebago Minnie Winnie.

I have always chosen a regular rectangular dinette setup with a car seat tether at the back (none have had more than one of those!).

We use evenflo symphony car seats - the boys have had them for years - they have a 5 pt harness, and we generally lower the dinette, remove the cushions, and use the lap belts to secure the seats. I hooked both tether straps to the one hook provided. We started when they were 3.5 yrs - they're now 6. Weight is still ok to use the 5 pt harness, but not much longer. Once they are too big for the 5 pt, we'll probably just graduate them to lap belts in the dinette. There isn't a shoulder belt solution that I am aware of.
