Class C sleeping above the cab.

Class C sleeping above the cab.
I want to have an older person sleeps above the cab, I am looking for ideas to make it easier to get up or down from there. Can anyone show pic of what they have done.

I'm struggling for a great solution that will still allow you to use the aisle way. The higher bed is definitely better for the younger folks.
If you really wanted to get ambitious you could fabricate a euro bed lift. The motor would work a little like slides. The straps hold up to 500 lbs I believe.
Ultimately, a better ladder is probably about all you can do.

(a better ladder is probably about all you can do.)

That is what I was thinking, longer, maybe a ramp, maybe to crawl

I was thinking about adding padding to the ladder steps, maybe pool noodles taped on? At late 60's I can climb the steps, but they hurt!

A ramp is good going up and easy to make I think. Might be clumsy coming down. To make a ramp I am thinking 3/4" birch plywood might work covered with carpet.

Or a super sturdy ladder.

Going up is a lot easier then coming down.

Good luck.

As an "older person" I would encourage you to sleep up there as the most acceptable solution.

Having to use the facilities 3x per night makes a ladder a non-starter.

As an older person, is this the only option? If it would be me, I would decline. Too much risk going up there. MHO

My wife and I slept in the overhead until we were both in our 70s.

I modified an old aluminum step ladder. Made getting up and down MUCH easier.

How many inches from the floor to the bed ?
How many inches wide is the bed?, how many inches long can a ladder be to be put in the bed.

I sleep in our overhead now and then ... all I do is keep a pair of slippers (with very shoe-like souls) at the bottom of the ladder so I can go up, then keep them up there until I’m ready to come back down.

As I approach the older state of life (I’m almost 65), I have to ask why an older person should be the one to sleep in the overhead? Do you not have a scissor couch or something similar at floor level? I would feel so bad if anybody fell out of the bed or lost their footing on a ladder. And wouldn’t a ramp have to be prohibitively long for easy climbing?

I'd use the overhead when stopping over nite and dont want to put out slides, the "net" keeps anyone from falling out. Most of the time it is storage.
I like the idea of the slippers, will try that!

I hope it goes well. A fall at that age is not good.

I sleep in our over the cab bed, and love it. But....the steps on the ladder can really hurt your feet. I wrapped each step with grey foam pipe insulation (very inexpensive at Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) Then wrapped each end tightly with black gorilla tape a couple of times to keep it from slipping. Much more comfortable on the feet now.
