E-Super Duty, is this a E350 or a E450?

We recently bought a 1997 28' Class C Triple E Senator XL motorhome. It has the E-Super Duty Chassis and a Triton V-10. I am curious to know if the E-Super Duty is a E350 or a E450, does anyone know, or how I can tell by looking at the vehicle specification decals?

Thanks!

I don't believe the E450 designation existed before the early-2000's

Hello, and , I believe docj is correct, but your serial # and a call to the local Ford store should tell you for sure.

With a 28 footer I would say it was an E450. But as others have posted get you chassis (not house) vin and give Ford a call.

docj, we had a 1999 Winebago Minnie Winnie DL and the badge on it said E450 Super Duty., so it was before early 2000's. I believe the badge had to do with which rear and front axle the frame received.

If it's the same as with the pickup line, and I can't believe it wouldn't be, up until about 1999 Ford didn't badge anything in the 'light' segment higher than F or E 350. They were merely badged as "Super Duty".

We had several F450 stake trucks, they all said "Super Duty" on them.

The GVWR is the easy way to tell, 11,000 pounds is E350, if it says 14,500 or 15,000 pounds it's an E450.

Thanks everyone for the help

Cylon51, thank you for the link, I put in my VIN and it tells me it's a E-Super Duty. The GVWR Range is 14,001 - 16,000 lbs (that leads me to assume it is the 450, and that in that year they just weren't labeled as such)

Murf2u, The vehicle decal says the GVWR is 14,050.

I did a bit more research based on the information you all have provided and here is what I found:

In 2001 Ford renamed the Econolines to "E-Series" and introduced the E350 and E450 badges on the front fenders.

In 2008 & 2009 Ford made several changes to the E-Series.

Quote:
The chassis and suspension improvements have also resulted in an increase in the maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) from 14,050 lb (6373 kg) to a class-leading 14,500 lb (6577 kg). Additionally, the maximum front gross axle weight rating (GAWR) is increased by about 10 percent, from 4,600 lb (2087 kg) to a class-leading 5,000 lb (2268 kg).
So, I'm thinking it's safe to assume that my 1997 E-Super Duty with the 14,050 GVWR is an early E450.

Thanks for your help everyone
