E450 Jayco passenger side heat

anyone have high passenger side heat at the feet while driving? driver side is ok. seems like engine cover area is hotter than it should be (uncomfortable). This is a 2010 Jayco 31FK, no mods.

Hello Master Chief.

We, too, experienced the same thing on our E350 and E450 chassis Phoenix Cruisers.
It's a Ford thing because there's no heat shield over the exhaust pipe under the Passenger's side floor.

Our temporary fix was to place a folded towel on the floor.
The permanent fix was to clamp a home-made sheet metal heat shield over the exhaust pipe.

Unfortunately, there's no real easy fix for the engine cover unless you insulate the inside of it with flexible mat heat shielding.

Ford and the manufacturers have had this problem for years and still do nothing. We had a class C and I pulled the front seats and enginve cover and lined the floor and engine cover with a 3/8" thick foiled backed fiber pad from J.C. Whitney. Took about 1/2 day to install it.

insulate passenger foot area

i'll try that --Eastwood also seels this and may help reduce the engine cover heat impacting comfort.

HERE is the insulation I used.

J.C. Whitney also sells a high temp spray adhesive and foil tape. I used the tape to seal the edges of the insulation on the engine cover.

When you apply the insulation to the floor pan, leave it cut back about 3/4" to allow getting the door sill trim back in place. Push the insulation back up the fire wall as far as possible. Also, leave the gap on the floor where the engine cover fits against the floor.

I believe I bout two rolls and what was left over, I used to line the generator compartment.

DO NOT use the Reflextic stuff that is sold at RV stores and Home Depot. It cannot take the heat in the areas close to the engine manifolds.

The seats are held down by 4 bolts each and a wiring harness to unclip. The engine cover is strictly a cut and fit and tape the seams and edges. The insulation was a tremendous help to make the cab tolerable.

More than likely, the carpet is glued directly to the cab floor and it may be a real chore to get it up. Be careful so you do not damage it and can reuse the carpet.

Good luck,
Ken
