Electric rear view mirror

I HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN HITTING A FOOL CROSSING THE CENTER LINE ON A VERY NARROW ROAD OR TAKING OUT A MAIL BOX. MAIL BOX LOST. HIT IT WITH PASSENGER SIDE ELECTRIC REAR VIEW MIRROR.

THIS CAUSED THE MIRROR SUPPORT TO SWING AND HIT WINDOW. LEFT A SMALL SKUFF MARK ON MIRROR HOUSING, NO OTHER VISIBLE DAMAGE. BUT,
NOW WHEN YOU TRY TO ADJUST MIRROR IT IS ALL OVER THE PLACE AND IS PRETTY MUCH USELESS.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO TAKE THESE APART (FORD E450 FRAME) OR KNOW A "QUICK FIX?" iT ACTS LIKE THE SUPPORT INSIDE THE MORROR IS EITHER LOOSE OR BROKEN.

You may be lucky and the mirror just got knocked loose. There is a piece on the back of the mirror that snaps into the part that moves when you adjust the mirror. See if you can pop it back in place.

The Mirror is held in there by its black plastic bezel, or frame. I had to replace my glass, and found an exact replacement on ebay for $29, shipped. (Part 709748 by Velvac.) Anyway, I moved the mirror max left, then down then right then up, releasing the barbs as I went around. I used some needle nose pliers, to pinch the plastic barbs a little, and a putty knife to push or pry the bezel off. Be careful not to break any barbs. The job was actually quite easy. Once you are in there, you can see what is going on. I assume you know about the white plastic plug on the end of the swing arm. It covers up a set screw used to tighten down the post for the whole mirror assembly. I hope yours is an easy fix for you. Good luck.
