Floor board heat in summertime

Floor board has unbearable heat coming from engine when outside temperature is hot. Is this a defect or can it be fixed?

Without knowing what chassis, engine or coach or whether it is new or old it is pretty difficult to say but generally it is not "normal" to feel excessive heat on the floorboards. However, if the exhaust system was worked on by someone perhaps they removed a heat shield,(usually made of sheet metal), or moved the exhaust too close to the floor. I have seen that before and it got hot enough to burn the carpet. The same can happen if there is a small hole in the exhaust and it is pointing at the floor.

There's several excellent products out there for soundproofing and reducing heat. Dyna-Mat is one of them.

It's a very dense yet thin foil-backed insulation in sheet form with adhesive on one side. If you line the engine compartment and cab floor you will find a huge difference.

I assume you have a Ford E450 with probably a V10 engine. My 31K Itasca E450 and my previous Coachmen on an E350 have V10 engines. My wife has complained about floorboard heat, on the passenger side, on both of those motor homes. I have not felt any heat on the driver's side in either MH. I imagine, as has been suggested, adding the proper type of insulation would help with that issue.
I keep forgetting to do anything about the problem.
You also should check your engine cover to make sure it's mounted properly. A temporary solution/help might be to put a beach towel or something similar on the floor to absorb some of the heat.

I had the same issue with my 31' c. Had issues with shifting from 5 the to 3rd gear going from 2500 to 4000 rpm on hills. I put a 5 star tuner in shifting problems went away and great reduction in heat for passenger and driver.

You could also put a wrap on the exhaust where it is near the doghouse/floorboard.

I took the rubber mat out and then started with hood insulation foil backed. My product name was Dyna Matt.

Then I put the rubber matt back into place and now the floor is nice and cool the touch.

Did the same sound deadening material on my Supernova. My main purpose was for sound deadening, but it also provides some decent heat insulation, not that i had that problem though. Dynamat is one brand, there are other generic types that are lower cost. They are primarily sold as sound deadening, the functionality is that they are a dense rubber material that absorbs the vibrations. But they also minimize heat transfer.

To install you have to remove all of your interior, down to the sheetmetal. The sounddeadening material is adhesive peel and stick, about 0.050-.080 inch thick. Once placed and rolled down, then reinstall your interior.

I used the product that did not peel and stick. It was about 1/2 inch thick material and then the foil back. I did use the dyna mat peel in stick for noise also. My cab floor now is cool and quiet. I used the dyna mat on the front below the dash on the firewall.
Look at the hot rod web sites they have a lot of products.

I have to put a bath mat on the floor of our Thor Four Winds, and never go bare footed! And by the way, your wife is right!
