When you say the 5 star tune are you talking the tune itself or did you do anything else like Intake or exhaust ?

Mine is a 07 E450 all stock, did not see any drop in mpg, slight grades that I could not hold 5th gear, with 5 star it holds them just fine seems to lessen the trans down shifting all the time. I am maxed out on gvw and gcgvw, tow a ford escape, avg mpg runs about 7mpg, lower out west, best $400 i ever spent on the rv!

Is it mostly a transmission shift point tune? Can you still run regular gas or does it require premium now?

I remember seeing a few drag racers, about 10 years ago putting Ford V10
engines in Crown vics and adding Vortech Superchargers on them.
I was told they held up just fine,....with reasonable boost pressue.

Run 87 octane, tried 91 no difference in mpg, why spend the money? I have a E450 loaded to max gcwr and drive 65 and get a solid 7mpg on a 5 speed trans.

I definitely agree on the 5 star tune! Drove my class c 2011 Itasca 26’ from AZ. To PA. last spring, the mountains we crossed made the tranny constantly keep downshifting. Read about the 5 Star Tune in the forums here, ordered it in Pennsylvania, installed the program, which is simple to do. World of different and as said by avfordguy, best $400 I’ve ever spent!!

We put the 5 Star tune on our 17 Quantum WS31. Slowed down towing in the hills before, not after! Had the full banks on a 35 ft Adventurer Class A. The improvement by the 5 star was as impressive, at 1/8 the cost.

I hate to sound "dumb" but can someone please tell me what a 5 Star Tuner is. I have a 32' Itasca Impulse with F450 and definitely have issues going up even small hills - constantly shifting. Will the 5 Star help with this? When I googled it looks like this is something that plugs/connects into the electrical system. Is this correct? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am a female and not particularly mechanically inclined. Thanks!

Think I just found the answer to my question - this appears to be electronics. Also found addt'l info on my unit (E350 Chassis - 305-hp 6.8L Super-Duty V10 SEFI Triton engine, TorqShift 5-speed auto transmission w/overdrive). Guess I can send this info to 5 Star Tuning to see if they have what I need. Also, BTW, pricing is now showing as $499 on their site so it has gone up!

All factory vehicle computers are programmed for the general public driving. Your F450 is programmed for general towing, not necessarily towing a RV. 5 star reprograms the vehicle computer to take advantage of the horsepower and torque availability of your engine. The 5 star is plugged into your OBD (on board diagnostic) port and will reprogram the computer for the conditions you use your vehicle for. Does wonders for shifting patterns.

RPMs

On a 2014 Georgetown with the Ford v10 my RPMs go up to over 5000 RPM when the shifts down going up hill Is that OK !

I drive my 26 ft RV towing a Jeep Patriot over the passes in Idaho and surrounding states all the time. The V10 frequently winds up to 4500 rpm.

Be sure to use tow haul mode and touch the brakes to downshift on the downhills. Use brakes very little. Sometimes need to put it in 4, or even 2 on very steep downgrades.

Tow haul doesn’t seem to do much on the ups.

I have a 2012 31' Class C, V10, 5 speed tranny pulling a toad 4 down. As noted, the V10 will run all day at high RPMs without doing any harm to the engine. What bothered me most was the transmission gear hunting going up hills. I read all the positive posts about 5 Star Tune on many forums. 5 Star will program it for 87, 91 or 93 octane. I chose 87. Plug it into you OBD port located under the steering wheel and follow the on screen directions. 5 Star adds about 42 HP and 75 Ft pounds of torque. Doesn't sound like much but makes a positive difference. It also reprograms the shift points of the transmission and this is where I noticed a huge difference. 5 Star offers IRV2 members a $50 discount and free shipping. I love mine.

Instead of the Tow/Haul being used, why not give the 'M' position a try and do your own down shifts. Acutally you can use that function even in drive with the 6 speed. We have a diesel and after too many really hard shifts started to use that manual funcion instead - 115,000 miles worth. While 4500 plus RPM wont hurt a V10 (my last truck had a V10) the sudden shifts and noise is not comforting to my ears. Those shifts onn a slick and wet road can get a bit dicey as well if you are not prepared for that sudden several gear rang drop
