Forward or reverse?

I have a very steep driveway about 400 ft long. And just for giggles it has a 90* turn as well. The incline probably pushes 10 to 12 % for about70 ft. I am able to get onto it without scrapping but am just unsure about whether to backup or pull up. The turn around area has dealt with tandem axle dump trucks and 20 ft box trucks. My Minnie Winnie is a V10 of 30.4 length with 205 WB. My fear is going nose first and then having to back down and maybe losing traction even though it is paved. OR trying to back up and blowing out reverse. Just how strong or low is the reverse in one of these? I know I am asking a question that really can't be answered without anyone seeing the landscape but maybe someone has dealt with a similar issue.

First you need the transmission model number and gear ratios , and to find out if the transmission circulates fluid through the cooler in reverse.
May be my old mind playing tricks but I think I remember a post about a certain trans that didn't cool when in reverse.

Once you have the info , maybe post in the Ford chassis forum , for more help.

The front pump does not change flow only the clutch packs change the gear most trans reverse in 2nd gear ratio but I doubt you would have a issue either way. So if your comfortable backing up the drive that would be my choice after a few passes you will have it mapped out and be able to just back right up thru it. On the other hand if you have room at the top to turn around that would be easier in the long run.

I drove tanks in Vietnam and have had them bobsled on me in steep terrain. All you could do was pick out trees that would only slow you down not stop you. If you were stopped you couldn't get traction to back up. Plus there are more coming down behind you in the same situation. HI HO. It was funny in it's own perverse way. One of my buddies came for a visit in his 35+ diesel pusher and even though I told him to park at the bottom, well you know, now the front end was being lifted by the rear engine and absolutely no braking by the front end so he almost did the same thing in reverse we had done in the Central Highlands. HI Ho again. I'll pick a good day and try it in increments. As we all know there is theory and then there is reality.

Thanks everyone. I cautiously backed up the drive and was successful in reaching the top. The engine and tranny seemed not to be put out too much for their effort. The descent was uneventful as well. You have to understand this driveway has put me upside down due to black ice once, and the paving crew nearly lost their paver on it. It has a local reputation. However, it is worth the effort to get here, you have just got to respect it, that's all. Thanks again
